The State Welfare Department was setup with an aim to cater the
needs of the welfare of Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes and Other Backward
Classes of the State. Under this department, various schemes are being
implemented for educational development, economic development and social
assistance. The schemes, which are being run, are based on different patterns.
In fact majority to the schemes are being funded out of state allocations. Some
schemes are funded on a 50:50 basis by the State and Central Govt. and some are
based on 100% Central sponsorship. Welfare Department has planned the schemes as
per the local requirement and local problems. Under the educational schemes,
this department is running schemes with an aim to provide educational assistance
right from the Std-I stage to Post Graduation level. Welfare Department is
running different income generating schemes through two of its corporations viz.
Bihar State Scheduled Caster Co-operative Development Corporation, Patna and
Bihar State Backward Classes Finance & Dev. Corporation, Patna |
