| This is exactly why we need to cater it with care and finesse. Hence,
Health and welfare are of prime concerns for the Government of Bihar. |
| Over the years, the government has introduced various health programmes and policies to better the standard of life of its citizens. This has
improved the life expectancy of males and females at birth every year and there has been a good decline in infant mortality rate as well. The government has also been able to control and cure illnesses such as tuberculosis, malaria, pneumonia and water borne diseases to a certain extent. But before getting into the nuances of various policies started or undertaken by the government let us first understand as in what is health? |
| The World Health Assembly defined health in 1948 as “a state of complete physical, mental and social well-being and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity.”, It is supplemented by other World Health Organization (WHO) reports such as the Ottawa Charter for Health Promotion which in 1986 stated that health is “a resource for everyday life, not the objective of living. Health is a positive concept emphasizing social and personal resources, as well as physical capacities.” |
| The department of health and family welfare is working towards providing health care “to the last household and
to the last person of the state" by the means of various policies made by the office bearers. It is the government’s responsibility to take care of the infrastructure of all the government and private hospitals and monitor its day to day functioning. Steps are being taken to make the state free of polio and tuberculosis and eradicate it from the root. |
| Apart from this ministry there is a State Health Society which does the following works: |
